Appleflap Noseless

Want control in high wind and big waves?

This directional kiteboard is all about big waves and big carves. If howling wind and big waves is your playground, then the Appleflap Noseless is your perfect partner!

The Appleflap Noseless is a directional wave kiteboard designed for control when you need it most. The curve follows the shape of bigger and more hollow waves, making the board perfect for those conditions. The Appleflap is a modern approach to a more traditional wave kiteboard.

Board features

Noseless shape

It takes a bit of getting used to not seeing the pointy nose, but less weight, easy travel and a slightly looser feel make the noseless version a good option.

Flip in the stubby nose

We flattened the rocker in the middle part of the board for better upwind capability and down the line speed. The back 2/3 of the board is exactly the same as if the board had a nose, including the rocker. We only added a slight flip in the stubby nose to prevent it from diving when coming down a wave.

Single to double concave

The Appleflap Noseless has a single to double concave for control and precision surfing. You will be amazed with how easy this board rides upwind, it is very easy to ride on the spot.

Narrow tail with pinched rails

It has a narrow tail with pinched rails for optimal control at high speeds and in bigger surf.

Stable platform

Waiting for the next set and finding a nice ramp to take off? The narrow tail makes it a surprisingly stable platform to land on when jumping. To further aid strapless tricks, the Appleflap Noseless features a grab rail in the deck.

The Appleflap Noseless in meant to be ridden small and with power in the kite.  When in doubt about the size, contact us for advise!

CUSTOM CONSTRUCTION

50K CLOSED CELL FOAM

Every board we make starts with a foam core of our very own 50K closed cell foam. This foam is formalized exclusively for us, it is not used in any other board in the market.

The foam can withstand 50.000 kg per square meter, while staying very light, and most of all very flexible. Another plus of our 50K foam is that it is closed cell, meaning that the foam will not take in water. And the board will not blow out when it gets hot.

From the shaped foam we can go two ways: Hex-skin Carbon or Hex-skin Glass.

HEX-SKIN GLASS

The base of the board consists of three layers wrapped around the core. An internal structural fibreglass layer, a hex-skin flexible honeycomb layer and another structural fibreglass layer that is placed in a 45 degree orientation. This to keep the board as flexible as possible while making a very strong base. The bottom is left without honeycomb, again to maintain maximum flex. How your board is constructed next depends on the strength option you choose.

The different strength options are explained in detail below. The board is now placed under a vacuum and with pressure, forcing the epoxy resin into the fibres. This way we use minimal resin and maximum fibre. Making the board super strong, yet very light. The colour is added as a pigment to the epoxy resin, coloring the entire board.

HEX-SKIN CARBON

Hex-skin Carbon is similar in composition to the Hex-skin Glass boards. But instead of glass we use 100% carbon fibre, there is no glass hidden underneath the top layer of carbon. Using carbon makes the board lighter and it makes it stick to your feet even better. Because the board is so light, it flows over the chops a lot better than you might expect.

To give the carbon boards their unique look the deck is finished with a tinted resin, that can be customized. Pick your own colour or mix multiple for a truly one-of-a kind board.

STRENGTH OPTIONS HEX-SKIN GLASS

hex-skin glass kiteboard technology

White-line build strength

This is the standard construction for kite wave surfing. Meaning true surfing with a kite. You can do the occasional freestyle jump, but in general these boards are made for the waves. The construction consists of the normal Kite+ construction, but without the internal 3mm honeycomb. Instead there is an extra biaxial fibreglass layer under the front foot. The construction is more than strong enough for everyday use, and you will not ding the board easily. After some time slight heel dents may appear, this is considered normal, and it will not weaken the board.

Kite+

This is our standard custom construction, pictured above. Suits most riders for wave and freestyle. And is therefore our standard custom strength construction. Under the front foot there’s a large patch of 3mm honeycomb inlaid in the foam core, with fibreglass underneath. The core is then wrapped by a layer of structural fibre- glass in a 45 degree orientation. A second thin flexible honeycomb layer is now layered all over the deck for more impact resistance. The Kite+ strength has the perfect balance between weight, strength and flex.

Kite+ S

The same construction as the Kite+ but with all the glass in S glass. This higher quality glass is stronger and more flexible. Because of this, we can use less fibreglass and this makes the board about 15-20% lighter.

STRENGTH OPTIONS HEX-SKIN CARBON

Hex-skin carbon kiteboard technology

CF- Ultralight

The lightest possible kite board. If you are after the lightest possible kiteboard construction, this is the way to go! Slight heel dents may appear over time, depending on rider’s weight and foot pressure, but the boards are ultra strong. Not really recommended for 100% free- style, but the occasional jump is not a problem at all.

CF+

Our standard custom carbon construction, pictured above. Suits most riders for wave and freestyle and offers the right balance between weight, strength and flex. This board will last you a very long time. And in carbon fibre it is light and looks the part too!

    Dag Wieger,

Just got back from an amazing trip to Sumbawa and just want to share that the board is amazing, best board ever. Amazed how well it rides upwind even when the wind is light, cuts through chop and is just a joy to ride. In the waves it is so different from the evo, and just had my mind blown. Best board ever!

  3. Troetben

The best board I’ve ever had. I could test it in Canos de Meca with Levante (30 – 35 nods, waves 2 – 2,6 m). Once you get used to this amazing stiffness of carbon , what means that you have to use your legs to cover up the kicks of water, this board offers you its full potential.
It’s amazingly fast, snappy and sensible and sucks off any energy, that comes in, to metabolize it into velocity and accelaration. It’s definitely not a compromise, made for high winds and big waves and more like a Diva. If you treat it well, it pays back with all its talents and let you smile for the rest of the day. If not,… it’s like a Diva ;-).
Thanks again to Wieger and the whole appletree-crew, who gave me the possibility to make this experience.

I ride this board in glass for almost a year. When I got this board and rode it for 2 sessions I actually hated it. To the point I was thinking to just sell it off, but after 3-5 sessions in the right conditions it just clicked and I started to really appreciate what this board can do. So in short: I would recommend Appleflap ONLY for experienced riders that want to take their riding in high wind/high wave conditions to the next level and don’t care about any compromises. It absolutely gives huge amount of control at high speeds and, thus, is really fun to ride. But this all comes at costs (compromises) that I think are not really fairly covered on this shop page:
    – in the low wind you are going to absolutely suffer. Its not just bad, its a nightmare to ride in light wind. It is worse than any smallest size twintip that I ever ridden in terms of light-wind/upwind performance. You need absolutely blasting wind for this board to perform. If it’s below 20 knots outside and you have something like 11-12m kite, don’t even think about taking this board out of the bag.
    – the ride is rough and physically challenging. it is not a cruiser board – its a board meant for high performance ride with steep waves and long sections between them. Same as a 911 GTR is made for race track, this board is made for these particular conditions. So if you are planning to ride it in chop – just know that you (or your joints) will get tired quite soon.
    – freestyle performance is absolutely not there. It has too much rocker and so it just doesn’t want to pop if you compare it to specialised strapless freestyle boards. If you are thinking to learn strapless freestyle on this thing in a flatwater – just forget about it. Jumping off the wave.. yes, its doable but nowhere as fun and easy as with a strapless freestyle board.

Overall I would rate it 9.3/10 for what its meant to do and maybe would only add a little more to riding comfort.
