The Big Zapple takes the frustration out of the learning curve and stands up to the heavy wear and tear of real lesson environments.
When we set out to build our board range at Appletree, our main focus has always been intermediate and advanced riders. Because we build premium, high-end boards designed to last for years and years, we rarely recommended an Appletree as someone’s very first board, especially when you are still figuring out if you even like the sport or what setup works best for you. An Appletree is built to stay in your quiver for many, many seasons.
However, everything changed when we adapted one of our most stable, forgiving shapes and added a flush Foil Drive trench just so the members of our own team could learn to foil.
The response was immediate. We saw incredible interest, not just from beginners looking for maximum confidence, but especially from foil schools. With the rapid rise of motor-assisted foil lessons worldwide, we realized schools needed a platform that was indestructible to handle heavy daily abuse. So, we decided to officially release the Big Zapple.
Built for heavy school abuse
If you run a foil school, you know the reality: knees slamming into the deck, board drops on the beach, and non-stop daily rotation. Standard boards simply don’t hold up.
To solve this, we gave the Big Zapple extra reinforcement. Built using our proprietary vacuum-infused Carbon-Glass-HEX-SKIN construction, we added a second HEX-SKIN layer directly on the deck where knees and elbows impact most.
And because it is built around our signature 50K closed-cell foam core, the board will never absorb a drop of water. If a student dings the board during a lesson, there’s no water-logging and zero downtime.
Seamless Foil Drive Integration
Motor-assisted foiling has completely transformed how people learn to foil, and the Big Zapple was shaped to make that connection seamless.
- Flush Trench & long boxes: Features a recessed trench on the bottom so your Foil Drive sits completely flush, eliminating drag and maximizing battery life.
- Signal window: A dedicated window in the nose ensures uninterrupted wireless connectivity between the remote and the motor unit.
- Refined Stability: Generous volume distribution gives nervous riders a solid, lateral platform to master throttle control without fighting the board.
Custom Orders
Because school fleets and individual needs vary, the Big Zapple is available by custom order only. Each board comes with a plush 3mm EVA traction pad with kicktail.
