Hugh Mitchell joins Appletree as official Team Rider

We are thrilled to officially announce that Hugh Mitchell is joining the Appletree team.
A true waterman from Western Australia. Hugh’s connection to the ocean started when he was just 10 years old. Based in Perth and calling the legendary waves of Yallingup his home spot, he is a familiar face in the lineup.
Hugh first discovered foiling back in 2021 when he was 17, right at the start of the Covid pandemic. His dad bought a foil set, and everything simply exploded from there! Hugh rides with flow, commitment, and a clear love for being on the water.
The Perfect Match: Hugh & the Midlength 77L
Hugh has been spending most of his time on the Midlength 77L, his go-to board in the lineup. Watching him ride in his local Western Australian waters, it is clear that his dynamic style and our high-performance tech are a great match.
Outside the water, Hugh brings a strong creative edge to the team. He has a huge love for filmmaking, editing, and storytelling. We can’t wait to see how he captures his foiling adventures.
Always moving forward
What we love most about Hugh is his hunger for progression and multi-disciplinary drive. He isn’t just focused on mastering switch foiling so he can comfortably surf on his forehand along Western Australia’s “land of the lefts”. He is also gearing up to push his limits in bigger waves and ultimately learn a backflip on the foil.
On top of that, Hugh is excited to host and compete in Project Flow again this year, a surf-style downwind event in Western Australia that was an absolute blast last season.
When he is not on a foil or behind the camera editing, Hugh is studying Medicine, diving into physics and science, or casually playing guitar.
