Born on the 21st of October, 2003, Hugh Mitchell grew up in Perth, Western Australia, with Yallingup as his favorite place to ride. He first started surfing at 10, and foiling came into the picture when he was 17 after his dad bought a foil set during the Covid pandemic. From there it all took off.
Foiling is part of his everyday life now, but nothing beats getting barreled surfing. Hugh is always chasing that perfect ride. His go-to Appletree board is the Midlength V2.
This season he’s looking forward to hosting and competing in Project Flow again, a surf-style downwind event in Western Australia that was an absolute blast last year.
One of his main goals is learning to foil switch. With Western Australia being the land of the lefts, riding forehand would open up a whole new world. He’s also hoping to get comfortable in bigger waves and landing a backflip on foil would be the dream.
Outside the water, Hugh loves filmmaking, editing and storytelling and hopes to create more foiling films. He’s currently studying Medicine, has a strong interest in physics and science, and plays guitar casually.
