In short
- Name: Jon Mann
- Date of Birth: 16/11/1992
- Hometown: Santpoort Noord
- Favourite spot: The North Sea (can't beat home)
- Favourite Appletree Surfboard: Skipper DW
Jon’s journey into foiling began unexpectedly with kite foiling after he suffered an MCL tear and endured multiple concussions from normal kiting and wakeboarding. These setbacks led him to explore new watersports, and he gradually transitioned into prone foiling, wing foiling, and eventually SUP DW foiling, which has now become his primary focus.
What motivates Jon most in his foiling adventures are the long runs, the thrill of new adventures, and the camaraderie he experiences with fellow foilers during his travels to downwind destinations.
Jon is gearing up for major competitions, including the Koa Kai Triple Crown in Hawaii, which features three challenging races: Paddle Imua, Maui to Molokai, and Molokai to Oahu. He’s also eagerly anticipating the Open de France in October.
In terms of learning and growth, Jon is keen to dive back into prone foiling, even though his focus has been on SUP due to the upcoming Hawaii races. He aims to make his foiling style more surf-like, striving for turns that are both harder and smoother.
Beyond the world of foiling, Jon cherishes time spent (on the water) with his girlfriend Frederique and their puppy Kyra. Plus he really enjoys winter breaks to go ski touring and enjoy the peacefulness of the mountains.
