Sawyer Wood isn’t just passionate about watersports; he’s addicted. Since his first wave at age 11 in the cold waters of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and later catching kitesurfing at 19 in St. Petersburg, Florida, Sawyer’s been chasing wind and waves ever since. Foiling soon followed.
This season, you’ll find Sawyer in some of the most intense races out there—think Gorge Paddle Challenge, Surf Foil Race League Cocoa Beach, Blowout (Downwind SUP) and the M2M. His goals are just as ambitious, aiming to nail that elusive barrel while surf foiling, land a 360 downwinding via pocket wing and maybe even throw in a backflip with a wing for good measure.
Known affectionately (and with good reason) as the “board destroyer,” Sawyer’s reputation for pushing his gear to the limit precedes him—though he’s yet to crack an Appletree board! Off the water, his style stays strong, known for donning shades at dance parties, and he’s a surprisingly dedicated fisherman. The catch rate? Low. The love? Unmatched.
