Tech Talk: Longer & narrower, but more Stable? | Midlength V2 vs Skipper Midlength

To be completely honest, we weren’t planning on making a new version of this board. We thought tweaking last year’s shape would be enough. But as Parawinging advanced rapidly over the last year, the specific needs of the sport pushed us to fully update the shape.
If you are a winger thinking about getting a parawing board that can easily double for both disciplines, or if you are currently on the fence about upgrading your current setup, here is the direct, side-by-side tech breakdown between the brand new Midlength V2 and the original Skipper Midlength.
Main technical reshape updates
The new Midlength V2 is not just a minor update; it is a full reshape with a new purpose. We engineered it to be an excellent board for parawinging that also doubles perfectly for low-wind winging, making it ultra-efficient for early flight.
Let’s look at the breakdown of the main differences that Wieger and Jon detailed in this Tech Talk:
1. Longer and narrower but MORE STABLE?
On paper, making a board longer and narrower usually means sacrificing a bit of stability. However, the Midlength V2 completely redefines this concept, offering a ride that actually feels even more stable on the water than its predecessor.
The original Skipper Midlength relied on a proven, more traditional wide and flat-bottom design to achieve its rock-solid stability. It works beautifully, but it requires a certain width to feel balanced when you are stationary.
For the Midlength V2, we took a completely different engineering approach by introducing highly pronounced, angled bottom bevels. When you are standing dead still in the water, these bevels act like outriggers, providing an incredibly secure, stable platform regardless of your weight distribution. The magic happens the moment you gain just a little bit of speed: the water releases instantly, the waterline narrows down drastically, and you get the lightning-fast efficiency and early flight of a super narrow board without ever feeling tippy.
2. Shifting the volume forward
The original Skipper Midlength had its volume stacked and centered much more toward the back, carrying over its DNA from traditional prone surfing. Jon noted during testing that when you tried to lunge forward to paddle up or pump a parawing, this back-heavy volume caused the nose to dive.
On the Midlength V2, we shifted the volume distribution slightly forward. Because the pull of a parawing or a hard paddle stroke comes from the front, this forward volume puts the support right under your front foot. It allows you to lunge forward, keeps the nose from burying, and lets you pump with both legs much more effectively.
The best part? Moving the volume forward for parawinging has zero downsides for normal wing foil sessions. The V2 wings surprisingly easily in light wind.
3. Maximum efficiency for early flight
As Jon puts it: “When you pump up the V2, it almost comes off like it doesn’t like water.” To ensure you get on plane as fast as humanly possible, the bottom architecture received a massive overhaul.
The Skipper featured a flatter rail line through the middle with a late tail rocker. The V2 introduces a completely smooth, continuous rocker line coupled with a deep V-shape in the tail and an incredibly hard bottom apex edge. This sharp edge forces the water to shed outward instantly instead of curling up the side of the rail and creating a heavy braking effect.
Jon tested this extensively in tight, short lake chop. On the Skipper, catching a rail during a touchdown could disturb your trajectory. On the V2, the continuous rocker blends beautifully, if you touch down in the middle of a hard turn, it refuses to grab, allowing you to skim right off the surface and continue your line completely undisturbed.
4. New art design: Multicolour tail dip
To mark this new era of midlengths, now built fully with our Coat 25 finish, we have officially retired our classic production swirl artwork for this model and introduced the new Multicolour tail dip art design.
This is not a digital factory print. Every single board is masked and dipped completely by hand right in our production facility. Because it is a purely artisanal process, no two boards will ever look exactly identical, giving you a custom, personal touch on a high-performance production board.
Is the Midlength V2 for me?
Our biggest takeaway from developing this shape is simple: a light-wind wing board doesn’t always parawing well, but a good parawing board wings beautifully.
If you are already riding the Skipper Midlength and strictly winging in decent breeze, it remains an incredible setup. But if you are looking for a board that unlocks the world of parawinging, paddles up with less effort, and experiences a flawless, ultra-efficient release for early flight, the tech updates on the Midlength V2 make it a massive step forward.
