Tech Talk: New board art design in Coat 25
26.10.2026
If you’ve been following Appletree lately, you’ll know we’ve been raving about our Coat 25 finish. It’s lighter, tougher, and more scratch-resistant than traditional epoxy. But as great as Coat 25 is, it presented us with a new challenge: bringing custom artwork to life on a material that behaves completely differently from standard resin.
Watch the Tech Talk below where Wieger introduces the new Multicolour Tail Dip design.
The Challenge: Art in Coat 25
While Coat 25 is a massive upgrade in durability and performance, it behaves completely differently from standard epoxy resin. Because of these unique material properties, our classic resin swirls simply couldn’t be applied the same way anymore.
Rather than compromising on aesthetics, we gave our hot coating team complete free rein to innovate and build a new design concept from scratch. The result? Multicolour Tail Dips.
Handcrafted art, zero added weight
Unlike standard board graphics that rely on heavy surface prints or stickers, these new tail dips are pigmented directly into the Coat 25 layer itself.
Because the pigment becomes part of the hot coat, you get a vibrant, deep-colour finish with zero added weight to your board.
What’s more, every single stripe and blend is applied entirely by hand. That means no two boards will ever look identical, giving you a truly 1-of-1, bespoke piece of craftsmanship under your feet.
Choose your colourway
The Multicolour Tail Dips is available with four standard colour combinations:
- Red
- Teal
- Pink & Purple
- Yellow & Orange
Want something completely unique? You can also choose your own custom 2-colour blend (mixed with white accents) or bring your own ideas to the table through our custom order section.

Replacing the Swirls
To clear up any confusion: these new Multicolour Tail Dips will replace our classic resin swirls. If you’re a fan of our single-colour tail dips, don’t worry, those aren’t going anywhere and remain a standard option.
The new design is already available across our lineup, including the Appleslice V4 and the new Midlength V2.
How to get yours
Because every board is custom-pigmented and built by hand from scratch, production lead times are currently 8 to 10 weeks. You can place your order today via our online custom board builder or through your local Appletree shop.
