Apple Skipper Midlength

Designed for prone, wing, and parawing riders

The new Skipper Midlength is Appletree’s answer to the growing demand for the one board quiver killer. It shines in lighter wind, prone setups, foil assist, and as a progression board for wing and parawing.

Inspired by the need for a true performance MidLength, we took its predecessor and, with feedback from riders around the world, refined everything we didn’t love while preserving what we did. The result is a board that’s efficient, versatile, and forgiving: prone it, wing it, or parawing it!

Designed for Versatility Across Disciplines

The Skipper Midlength is built to serve a wide range of riders:

  • Smaller Sizes: Perfect for prone riders and experienced wing/para-wing users. Also great for riders using foil assist systems who don’t want to fully commit to the Zapple.
  • Mid-Range Sizes: Optimized for all-around performance for both wing and parawing, balanced, responsive, with superb low end for the volume.
  • Larger Sizes: Ideal for light wind sessions, providing excellent efficiency  and lift in low-power conditions.

Fast and Fluid Feels

The Skipper Midlength features a displacement hull. A streamlined, canoe-like shape that moves through water with minimal resistance. This design builds speed quickly and allows for early takeoffs whether you’re on a floater or sinker setup. It excels in marginal conditions where speed and glide are key, but it’s equally at home in bigger, windier and more demanding conditions.

Performance-Driven Design Upgrades:

  • Longer Hard Rails: For improved water release at takeoff.
  • Extra Tail Rocker: Solves tail-catching issues in turns and bumpy water, adding responsiveness.
  • Narrower Outline: Boosts efficiency, enhances agility, and keeps the board out of the water in hard carves.
  • Forward Foil Box Positioning: Reduces swing weight, making the board feel shorter and livelier on foil. Longer boxes to fit all foils on the market.
  • Y setup inserts and comfortable deck pads: come standard for added convenience and comfort. New micro adjust hole layout, for ultra precise strap placement

Apple Skipper Midlength vs. Apple Slice V3

While the Apple Slice V3 shares the narrow feel, it’s a very different ride. It features a planing hull, making it more stable and beginner-friendly. If you’re new to winging or ride in heavier conditions, the Slice V3 might be your better match.

The Apple Skipper Midlength shines in lighter wind, prone setups, foil assist, and as a progression board for parawing.

Vacuum-infused Construction, Appletree Standard

Every Skipper Midlength comes in our proven full carbon vacuum-infused construction, with closed cell foam core. Lightweight, durable, and built to last.

Easy-to-Recognize Sizing

Every Skipper Midlength board size ends in the number 7, making them easy to identify within the Appletree collection. When you see a volume number ending in 7, you’ll know it’s part of the Skipper Midlength series.

FOIL CONSTRUCTION

50K CLOSED CELL FOAM

It all starts with the core and every board we make starts with a foam core of our very own 50K closed cell foam. This foam is formalized exclusively for us, it is not used in any other board in the market.

The foam can withstand 50.000 kg per square meter, while staying very light, and most of all very flexible. Another plus of our 50K foam is that it is closed cell, meaning that the foam will not take in water, and the board will not blow out when it gets hot.

100% CARBON FIBER CONSTRUCTION

All our foil boards are produced in our 100% carbon fiber construction. You want carbon fiber in a foil board for its stiffness and strength. A stiff board will give you the best control and response from the foil. Also stiffness will make pumping the foil much more effective. With carbon fiber we are able to make the board extremely strong while really light at the same time.

The most stress in a foil board is in the connection of the foil to the board. So this is where we put extra care and attention to make it the strongest connection available. The foil mount is CNC cut with the board, for the highest precision. We only use FUTURES oneshot boxes as they are the strongest in the industry.  The boxes are placed in a panel of ultra high density PET honeycomb. This PET honeycomb itself is sandwiched in carbon again. Meaning there is carbon fiber both inside the board and outside. The honeycombs open structure ensures a solid connection between inside and outside, fusing everything together into a solid block.

Our lamination is completely different as well. We use a vacuum technique developed in house, where we layer all the carbon fiber, and reinforcements on the board dry. Then we extract all the air from the bag and inject the epoxy resin under pressure. This results in the tightest lamination possible, with the best ration between fiber and epoxy. It also gives 100% connection to the core so the boards do not delaminate. Extra patches under the feet prevent heel denting.

Inserts in our foil range are made from blocks of high density material. And can be customized position wise. These blocks are also fused to the core so they never pull out.

My present go to board is a Slice v2 83 L.
My weight is 95kg in wet suit, some kind of intermediate level.
I got the Apple Skipper Midlength 97 L to be able to get out on the water wing foiling in light wind condition, where my Slice v2 is though to getup on foil.
The Apple Skipper Midlength is fantastic. Fast in getting out of the water. The rocker and the shape of the tail makes it possible to use my legs to push the board when getting up in marginal conditions.
The board is super stiff. The shape makes it possible to turn limitless (to the extent a longer board turns). The mast track position makes me feel that the board is shorter than it is.
The narrow board requires faster foot switches compared to the Slice v2, but it only took 4 laps to get used to.

In my location we have swells/small waves even in light wind conditions. This board gives me the possibility to ride the swells in very marginal conditions (yesterday alone out in the ocean😀).

I got the 67l and weigh 72kg in “underwear”/85kg in wet wintergear. My goto foil is Axis Art 879 v2 in most conditions. I only wing, preferably in medium waves.

The design is a work of art and the construction super solid. For me, closed cell was an absolute requirement, not having to worry about dings when on water or travelling.
This is my first ml board, and I am surprised by its agile feel on foil, probably as the volume is mostly distributed underfoot (less swingweight). Compared to a traditional design, I no longer touch down rails on hard carves . In normal conditions, take off is instant. Pumping in really light conditions has taken a little getting used to compared to my previous board, probably since this has less volume in the front. I was a little concerned about scratching the matte black surface, but with a boardsock, I am no longer worried.

All in all, – superhappy with the board and impressed by the Appletree team!
